The TopSpec Novice Restricted Championship is an exciting addition to the British Eventing calendar. Launched in 2015, it is held annually at Gatcombe Park as part of The Festival of British Eventing. Successfully qualified horse and rider combinations flock to this prestigious venue each summer.
What level is the Championship held at?
This Championship is a true Novice test taking place over a Novice cross country course, designed by Captain Mark Phillips and built by both the David Evans team and the Willis Brothers.
Who can compete?
In keeping with the grassroots nature of the Championship, riders must not have finished in the top 25% of an Intermediate class in the current or preceding five years, and not completed an Advanced class in the current or preceding 10 years.
How can I qualify?
The qualifying period runs from 1 July each year to the 30 June in the following year, with the Championship taking place in the succeeding August at The Festival of British Eventing, Gatcombe.
Horse and rider combinations must finish in the top 10 percent at any Novice, Open Novice, Intermediate Novice, CCI2*-S or CCI2*-L during this period, excluding Under 18 Novice classes and Pony Trials.
Horses can be Grades 2, 3 or 4 and riders will need to be in the year of their 19th birthday or older.
