Fixtures update 18 April 2018

David Holmes; “Thank goodness we are now seeing some better weather and as a consequence of which some great competition at Belton International and Moreton (X) last weekend. Our thanks especially to the team at Forgandenny who tried to get an event into the calendar to replace Dalkeith (1) this weekend however their attempts were thwarted by the continuing wet ground.

“This weekend is currently looking good and positive reports from the Fixtures Team (FT) who are monitoring all events progress on a daily basis. The FT are looking at adding days into existing events and a number have expressed an interest in doing so and would have the ability to do so. The challenge for the FT and most organisers currently is that understandably competitors are holding off from making their entries. This means that for the weeks ahead there is not yet a clear picture of where the requirement for additional capacity lies in order to justify an organiser taking the risk of adding another day – something which if done too early could also impact on events that are in the calendar and have their entries open.

“Clearly there also exists within the fixtures process the ability for an organiser to request adding an extra day if they have sufficient entries at ballot to do so however often that date is too close to their event in order for them to organise all of the volunteers, contractors, officials, and staff to be able to make that extra day a reality.

“We would therefore encourage competitors to make their entries as soon as they can since this will help the Fixtures Team enormously in terms of adding additional days.”
