Changes to Risk Management Committee
After more than five years of sharing his veterinary knowledge and passion for the sport of eventing, Mark Lucey BVM&S, MRCVS is soon to be stepping down from his role as veterinary representative on British Eventing’s Risk Management Committee (RMC).
Mark, who is a recently retired veterinary surgeon having spent many years at Bourton Vale in Gloucestershire, joined the committee at a critically important time for BE, during a period when many changes and developments were introduced to help manage the risk of the cross country element of eventing.
BE now welcomes veterinary surgeon Ali Butler (née Lucking) to the RMC as its new veterinary representative. Ali brings with her a wealth of knowledge having been FEI Veterinary delegate at many high profile British events and having worked in equine practice for the last 20 years in Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. She owns a top level horse with Gloucestershire-based Australian Olympian Bill Levett as well as eventing and hunting regularly herself. She now works as an equine veterinary surgeon on a freelance basis and runs Fosseway Equine which provides veterinary and horse ambulance cover at numerous BE events across the country.
Chairman of the RMC, Jonathan Chapman commented: “Mark’s expertise on the committee has been completely invaluable throughout this time, we all wish him the very best in his retirement.
“We are delighted to learn that Ali has agreed to join the Risk Management Committee with her wealth of experience in the sport at all levels; we look forward to our first committee meeting with her on board.”
Ali said of her new role: “This is a very exciting opportunity; the safety development side of the sport really interests me and I'm looking forward to being a part of this team in their continuing research into minimising the risks of eventing at all levels.”
