BE Five-Year-Old Championships 2020

This weekend not only marks the final events of the 2020 season, but the pinnacle of competition for five-year-old horses in the British Eventing calendar. Oasby (2) Horse Trials will welcome the best five-year-old horses in Great Britain for the 2020 Championships, sponsored by Tigga’s Saddlery.

Set at BE100 level and brought together via a series of qualifying events that took place across the country between July and September, a total of 29 combinations are vying to become this year’s British Eventing Five-Year-Old Champion.

For many riders, owners and breeders of young event horses, the championship provides a key focus as the very best five-year-old horses come together to compete for the coveted title. Previous champions include 2012 winner Ceylor L A N, owned by Diana Bown, Jacqueline Owen and Samantha Wilson and ridden by Kitty King, who just four year’s later competed for Team GB at Rio 2016 and Emilie Chandler’s 2009 winner Coopers Law (owned by Nicola Dickson and Sally Williams) who went on to place fourth at Pau 5* in 2017.

This year includes seven British-bred horses and two riders who have previously held the title: Vicky Tuffs – who has qualified three horses, KMR Cascanessi, Kadans and Kogola – and defending champion, Eliza Stoddart with her own, Georgina Stoddart, Heather Sandell and Sue Brankin Frisby’s De Pleasure.
