Online coaching modules

British Eventing is pleased to offer a variety of online modules for coaches with the help of online media company White Hart Multimedia.

The modules, which coaches can complete in their own time and comfort on their computer at home, are suitable for both BE Accredited and non-accredited coaches. They offer ongoing CPD, a refresher of coaching basics and clarification on correct procedures and good practice.

There are three modules currently available, and modules are available to purchase individually or as one package. Find out more about each module below.

How do I get hold of these modules?

You can buy each module individually or all three at once for a discounted price in the BE shop. They are available for everyone to purchase, and you do not need to be a BE Accredited Coach to take advantage of the benefits the modules bring. Following the purchase of a module, the user will receive an email containing a unique link and their own login details. They will then have exclusive access to the modules they have purchased, and will be able to complete the modules in their own time.

If you would like to bulk buy a large number of modules for a group of students, we may be able to offer a discount. Please contact training@britisheventing.com.

Online Coaching Modules

Module 1

Introduction to Coaching

What is coaching all about? How is it different to instructing? What skills do I need to develop? This module will provide the answers to these questions and many more. It is ideal for finding out what coaching is all about, as well as providing information for more experienced coaches who would like to refresh their knowledge.

This module aims to cover the basics of good coaching practice, and will guide the user through the coaching process in clear, easy stages. Users will be presented with useful information, task-based exercises and real-life scenarios and asked to identify the skills and characteristics of a great coach.  The user will then put these into practice in a safe environment with constructive feedback. Tools for coaches to use to improve the processes of self-assessment and evaluation are also included in this module. Developing the 'coaching philosophy' is another great exercise included within the module, and coaches will get the opportunity to print off notes for reference or for use when contributing to a UKCC portfolio.

Module 2

Preparing to Coach

Rider Information:

This part of the module helps coaches to understand what type of information is needed from riders and how best to use it, including the legal requirements for keeping/sharing rider information. This module is relevant to both freelance and employed coaches. By the end of the module users will be able to identify the minimum rider information needed, know how the information gathered should be used and be aware of any information which should be kept confidential. In the process, users will develop a rider questionnaire which can be printed off and used for their own records.

Assessing Risk:

This part of the module will take the mystery out of assessing risk with fun and interactive exercises. The module will guide the user step by step through identifying possible risk, how to assess the likelihood and severity of risk and the sort of action needed to mitigate any risk. It's packed with information and links to support coaches in fulfilling one of the most important roles of a coach - ensuring the safety of riders. As part of the module, users will also develop their own risk assessment, which can be printed off and used.

Module 3

Rider Health and Fitness

Many of us don't realise we are dehydrated until we need a drink. At this point we are already sufficiently dehydrated to cause a loss of concentration, a condition that could cost a rider marks in a dressage test, or endanger their safety when approaching a big cross country fence. This module will allow coaches to gain the essential knowledge to give riders sound advice on basic nutrition and staying hydrated. The module itself is packed with interesting facts on good practice for staying hydrated and what to do if a coach suspects a rider is dehydrated. It also covers the basic food groups and healthy eating, with fun and engaging activities, and there are external links for those wishing to explore the subject further.
