Members under the age of 21 make up 20 per cent of the BE membership, and our Youth Performance Programmes are an essential part of the sport, with many participants going on to compete at the top. The programmes are designed to provide riders with competitive experience within their age group, help them develop a greater knowledge of the sport and further their riding careers. About the Programmes
Sponsored by Charles Owen, the Pony Programme is a competition and training programme designed to produce a team to represent Great Britain at the European Championships, as well as to coach and develop riders for future participation in the Pony team.
Members who are not yet competing at Novice level are welcome to register and participate in all Pony Programme training activities. However, it should be noted that the competitions included in the programme are run at Novice level, and riders and ponies competing should be competent to run at this level of technicality.
To participate in the programme, riders and ponies must fulfil the following criteria:
- Riders must be between the year of their 12th and 16th birthday
- Ponies must be between 142cm and 148cm.
More information on competing on the Pony Programme can be found HERE.
The purpose of the NAF Junior programme (for 16 to 18 year olds) is to identify talented Junior riders and horses that may have the potential for international recognition, and to encourage and develop their talent.
A top-quality programme of training with the Junior team coach during the early months of the year will provide riders with the platform they need to progress and work towards team selection for the European Championships.
More information on the Junior Programme can be found HERE.
The Saracen Young Rider Programme is for riders aged 21 and under looking to make their mark in the eventing world. The selectors are seeking talented Young Riders to help and encourage through to the top level of the sport.
Every effort will be made for all who participate in the programme to gain from the training and competition aspects to help them achieve their future goals, and to have fun while doing so.
