Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar update

Following our announcement on 4th June that we are hoping to resume sport on 4th July, we wanted to update you on the next steps in our planning process and answer some key questions. We know that many of you are enthusiastically awaiting the restart of eventing and we look forward to welcoming you all back shortly.  Sport in Scotland and Wales will be dependent on restrictions being eased by the devolved governments, and we will update on the position for both Scotland and Wales when we have more information.

So, where are we now? As we highlighted in our last update, we are currently awaiting further guidance from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport in relation to the resumption of amateur sport. We have been advised by the Sport and Recreation Alliance that we can expect to receive this guidance today and we eagerly await this information.

We understand that many of you are keen to make plans, so we wanted to share as much information as possible at this stage, including the confirmed Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar 4th July through to 31st August.

Questions and Answers

Will eventing definitely resume on 4th July?

No. The 4th July remains our aim in line with phase 3 of the English government’s “Road to recovery plan”. At today’s date we have received specific guidance in relation to elite sport behind closed doors and we are expecting that the next release of guidance from DCMS to include guidance for amateur sport which will be crucial to us officially restarting sport.

When will entries open?

We have always said that we do not feel it is appropriate to open entries until government guidance has been released which means that the event itself can go ahead.  Therefore, until the anticipated guidance is received, we will not open entries for any events. Should we receive the DCMS guidance shortly we will aim to open entries the w/c 15th June at the earliest.  We will update the website news section, and social media, to advise members when entries are open.

What is the Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar?

We appreciate that the impact of COVID-19 has been far-reaching and as a result some organisers have made the difficult decision not to run their events as planned this year. We have been working closely with all organisers to confirm a new ‘Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar’. We have confirmed what this calendar will look like from 4th July through to 31st August (see below).

We are in the process of confirming the remaining fixtures for September and October and will publish these shortly.  For those planning campaigns for their horses at Novice and above, the calendar remains largely unaltered (other than the cancellations that have previously been advised).  We are hoping to replace the Blenheim weekend CCI4*-S and CCI 4*-L fixture, and also to insert an additional CCI3*-L at the end of October.  Organisers have been asked to provide an expression of interest for these classes.

Are the fixtures on the BE website the same as the Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar?

The BE website will be updated the w/c 15th June to include the agreed fixtures for July and August, their revised dates, entry opening dates, decision to run dates and ballot dates.

The fixtures for September and October will remain unchanged on the website for now while we confirm these with organisers.

Have events been added to the fixtures list?

Yes, events have been moved in the calendar as well as new events added in order to give members a range of competition opportunities.  We will continue to keep the calendar under review.

What about BE90 and BE100 Regional Finals?

We know that there are questions regarding Regional Finals for the Science Supplements Cup and who will be eligible to enter these. RF’s until the end of August are included on the Sport Resumption Fixtures Calendar, and those in the latter part of the season will be released shortly.  We are considering the position for those who had qualified for RF’s which were abandoned earlier in the season and will provide more information shortly.

What is the current situation with vaccinations?

We are aware that some members will not have been able to have their horses vaccinated during lockdown.  On the advice of our Chief Veterinary Officer that the risk of Equine Influenza is currently low, we will have an amnesty on the requirement for a booster within 6 months prior to the date of competition, effective from 1st July through to the end of October.

For clarity, horses competing in national classes during the 2020 season must have up to date annual vaccinations. The requirement for the horse to have had the most recent booster within the six months and 21 days prior to the competition will return for the 2021 season.

If your horse has missed the annual vaccination renewal date ( i.e. 12 calendar months after the last recorded vaccination in the passport)  then you will need to restart the course of injections again before competing. This means you need to have had a first and second vaccination within no less than 21 days of each other and 7 clear days after the second vaccination before the date of competition.

Those competing at FEI events will require vaccinations in line with FEI requirements.

What is happening with the Abandonment insurance claim?

We are making good progress and hope to be in a position to further update you shortly.
