Sport restart - a huge thank you!

Friday 10 July marked the much-anticipated restart of the 2020 eventing season and we are pleased to say that it ran incredibly well.

I wanted personally to say a huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to get the sport going again and all of you who attended, stuck to the rules, and made the weekend such a success. These past few days of eventing have been an accumulation of many weeks of extremely hard work behind the scenes, and I am very proud of the BE team and work done to get us here.

The organising teams at Tweseldown, Aske and Barbury have worked tirelessly to ensure that their events ran as smoothly as possible in line with the new protocols, making all the necessary adjustments. These event organisers and our team of officials have really helped pave the way for the remainder of our events.

Riders and owners were respectful of the guidelines in place and a big effort was made by all to stick to their allocated times, adhere to social distancing rules and leave the event site as soon as they had completed.

Each event was oversubscribed with offers of help from our army of dedicated volunteers for which we are extremely grateful. A big thank you goes to everyone who gave up their time to help support events.

I am aware however that there is still negativity from some quarters – particularly in relation to I.T.  To give some reassurance to you, we have successfully had circa 8,500 entries made since the first event opened for entries.  Less than 1% of these entries have had a system issue that we have had to resolve.  In addition, we are aware that some errors have occurred internally when the events have been set up prior to opening for entries, for example in relation to VAT and start fees. We are reviewing our processes to try and avoid these issues occurring in the future and when glitches have arisen the team have acted fast to resolve them.  A full I.T. update will be released shortly, which will explain the work we have been doing during the lockdown period in more detail.

We now look ahead to the remainder of the eventing season and thank you all for your overwhelming support. We are pleased to have been able to add additional days of competition to events due to popular demand and we will continue to adapt our fixtures accordingly. The fixtures calendar for September and October has recently been released  and we will continue to monitor and add additional days of competition to where they are needed.

Wishing you an enjoyable remainder of the 2020 eventing season.
