Riders aiming for 1* enjoy initial Stepping Stones Training Day

In a new initiative run as part of the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap (MTBTG) programme (for two and three star level riders), twelve one star level riders enjoyed the inaugural ‘Stepping Stones’ Training day on the 15 July with MTBTG Coaches Gill Watson MBE FBHS and Lizzel Winter FBHS. The MTBTG Programme is generously sponsored by Keyflow Feeds and The Mark Todd Collection.

Lizzel described the day: “Each rider had the opportunity to work their horses gymnastically over ground poles, jump around a track that simulated their personal level of competition and prepare for and ride through a relevant dressage test. Everything was kindly videoed by Alice Miller giving each rider the chance not only to review their own personal performance but also to receive some extra valuable feedback and take away the footage to view at a later date. It was a pleasure to work with such keen and talented combinations; the future of the sport certainly looks bright if the enthusiasm of these competitors is anything to go by!”

Gill added: “The day highlighted the need for guidance for 1* riders. Their enthusiasm to improve was evident, and being involved with judging each other’s’ dressage tests was educational and enlightening for them. An enjoyable day which I feel needs repeating regularly.”

More Stepping Stones Training dates will be rolled out next year and will be available to book on www.britisheventing.com/training
