New Sponsorship for Swalcliffe Park

The first day of the Swalcliffe Park British Eventing competition on 16 March will be known as the Newbridge Straw Saturday as a result of a new sponsorship deal between the two local farming families.

The Heath family established Newbridge Straw alongside the family farm at Blackwell, near Shipston on Stour, in 2005, and the business has now grown to supplying over 300,000 bales of dust extracted bedding a year. Prior to baling, the straw is chopped to 50mm lengths then the dust is extracted, and it can be treated with Equissential, which effectively removes odours, whilst also killing and controlling harmful bacteria and viruses.

Richard Taylor, a course builder at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, first opened a cross country course at Swalcliffe in 1999, and it is now established as a leading training venue, as well as host to a number of events. The professionally built course attracts competitors from around the country, including international riders, although the majority are local amateurs who relish the opportunity to use fences built to the highest standards.

Newbridge Straw Products are already popular in a number of big yards across the country, but Rob Heath (Director) feels the 20kg bales are ideal for the smaller yards too – so a natural match for those coming to Swalcliffe. “We welcome customers to come to the farm and buy as much bedding as they need – on a weekly basis if necessary - rather than having to cope with a large delivery. As well as the health benefits, and ease of use, it’s also convenient to transport, and the packaging means it won’t leave a trail of straw behind your vehicle!”

Richard said; “This is the first time we have had an overall sponsor, but it feels a very natural fit.  With our families being long-established in the region, we both just really want to offer quality products to the local equestrian community. It was easy to work with Rob – not least because we both understand the joys – and challenges – of being the youngest generation working in a family business!”

Swalcliffe Park Horse Trials is taking place on 16 and 17 March at Swalcliffe Grange, Swalcliffe and Peter Forster (Newbridge Straw) will be there all weekend to answer questions and show the samples of the different types of bedding available.
