March leads the way in the Young Horse Championship

After the first day of dressage, Piggy March and Susie Wood's Cooley Goodwood top the leaderboard in the British Eventing Six Year Old Championship.

 

Hosted at the Osberton at Thoresby International Horse Trials, Piggy and the six year old gelding (Obos Quality 004 X Burrane Kate) get off to a commanding start in the CCI2*-S Young Horse Championship class with an impressive score of 24.6 penalties. 

World number four, Piggy, also holds the bronze medal position on her second ride, Cooley Kan Do. Gillian Aldous and Ann Tolhurst's Kannan-sired mare scored 31.0 to sit just over three penalties behind second placed Izzy Taylor. Riding her own British-bred gelding, Jaeger Master (ROYALDIK x ANIKA), Izzy posted a score of 27.8 penalties on the first day of comeptition. 

The BE Seven Year Old Champioinship gets underway on Friday morning. Livescores and results from today can be found HERE.

In the CCI2*-L and CCI3*-L, competitors vied for the top places in front of ground jury, Anne-Marie Taylor, Adrian Buzzard, Linda Pearce and Agnieszka Mossakowska.

Sarah Holmes (pictured) heads the CCI2*-L at the end of the day riding Harley Brown for owner Ellen Brown on a score of 25.8 penalties. At the top of the leaderboard in the CCI3*-L, on a score of 27.8 penalties is New Zealand's James Avery, riding Generous DHI, a nine-year-old, bay gelding, owned by Heidi Woodhead.

Organiser Stuart Buntine said; “With the second day of dressage complete we are delighted with how well the ground is holding up and there have been some fantastic performances throughout.

“The competitors and support teams are in great form and we are looking forward to the final day of dressage tomorrow before cross country and showjumping gets underway on Saturday."
