In memoriam: Tom Ryckewaert

British Eventing is very sad to learn that Tom Ryckewaert (BEL) passed away at the age of 63.

Tom was the Event Director at the Belgian fixture at Waregem and one of the best known and respected FEI Officials within eventing.

He was also member of the FEI Eventing Committee from 2006-2009, and held many roles across eventing including event organiser, Technical Delegate (TD), Course Designer and Steward. Tom acted as TD and Chief Steward at multiple FEI Championships and four Olympic Games – Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

A former international event rider, he had also officiated at major competitions all over the world, including Burghley (GBR). Tom was the organiser of Waregem Horse Trials for 40 years and, under his leadership, the venue has hosted a leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup since the series’ inception in 2012.

Our thoughts are with Tom’s friends and family, including his partner Florence and four children - Thomas, Levi, Alice and Simon.
