Germany gallops away with 25th European Team title

Germany claimed Team gold at the FEI Dressage European Championship 2021 in Hagen (GER) today, posting their 25th victory in the 58-year history of the event and pinning Great Britain into silver medal spot while Denmark took the bronze.

The British held the lead at the halfway stage yesterday, but once Germany’s Isabell Werth and Weihegold put the new leading score of 79.860 on the board this morning then the tables began to turn.

And when her Tokyo Olympic Games team gold-medal-winning compatriot Jessica von Bredow-Werndl backed that up with a whopping 84.099 with TSF Dalera BB this afternoon then the German team total of 238.944 was just too big for the rest and the pair joined Dorothee Schneider (Faustus) and Helen Langehanenberg (Annabelle) on the top step of the podium.

Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin produced a superb 79.829 with Gio to anchor her country in silver medal spot on a final tally of 232.345. And Cathrine Dufour’s 79.721 with Bohemian ensured the Danes took bronze, their final scoreline of 231.165 leaving them well clear of Team Sweden in fourth.
