Fixtures 2020 week five replacement update

The next step in the process to replace the week five International Horse Trials from 2020 onwards took place last week.

The process follows the announcement that the National Trust would no longer host a horse trial at Belton House, and saw seven venues apply for the replacement fixture. After an assessment of the seven applications, four venues were selected to be visited by the Venue Assessment Panel (VAP), made up of Yogi Breisner, Bruce Haskell and Paul Graham.

The visits took place on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 June, and various areas were assessed including, general site layout, ground and ground management, lorry park, stabling, access and wet weather contingency plans.

The venues visited were:

  • Bicton Arena
  • Frickley Park
  • Thoresby Park
  • Weston Park

The four venue organisers will now make presentations to the Stakeholder Panel later this week; led by an Independent Chairman and represented by the British Event Organisers Association, Event Riders Association, Event Horse Owners Association and the Senior Performance Team. Details of each representative will be made following the presentations to safeguard the independence of the Stakeholder Panel.

The announcement of the successful venue will be made in due course.
