Championships update

As we look ahead to eventing resuming on 10 July we wanted to share the following update regarding qualifications and Championships. We know that Championships are a key focus for many members, and we continue to work closely with organisers to provide these valuable competition opportunities to you.

2019 Airowear BE80(T) Championship

Following the cancellation of the 2019 Airowear BE80(T) Championship we are pleased to confirm that Norton Disney (3) 16-18 October 2020 will host the rescheduled Airowear 2019 BE80(T) Championship. We appreciate that this has been a much-anticipated competition and we look forward to crowning our long-awaiting 2019 Champion. The 2019 Championship will be held as a stand-alone class at Norton Disney.

2020 BE80(T) Championship

The 2020 BE80(T) Championship was due to be held for the first time as part of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, which sadly has been cancelled. We are delighted to announce that Norton Disney (3) 16-18 October 2020 will be hosting this year’s BE80(T) Championship. This will be run as a separate section. Fittingly, Norton Disney Event Organiser and Course Designer Joe Weller has been appointed to design and build the new BE80(T) course at Burghley and promises to put on a spectacular course for this year’s competitors.

We appreciate that as a result of events being cancelled at the start of this season members may not have had the opportunity to gain their BE80(T) 2020 Regional Final qualifications. We are therefore extending the Regional Final qualification criteria from eligible combinations finishing in the top 20 per cent of each normal BE80(T) section held from 1st May 2019 to 30th April 2020 to the top 25 per cent.

The top 25 per cent of starters at each Regional Final will qualify for the Championship, this has been increased from the top 20 percent.

The timescales in which Regional Finals will be held has been extended from July and August up to the 19 September. Details of Regional Finals due to be held in September will be released shortly.

BE80(T) Coaching

When events resume, we will be following strict social distancing guidelines and will be restricting the number of riders allowed in collecting rings. In order to allow the maximum number of riders in to a collecting ring, and to avoid groups gathering to take part in guided courses walks, we have made the decision that BE80(T) Coaching support will not be available for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Team Challenge

We announced earlier in the year the introduction of a new Team Challenge competition for adult riders at BE80(T) and BE90 Open level with qualifiers leading to a National Championship.

We have taken feedback from the Grassroots Rider Working Group and have adapted the concept for 2020 to concentrate on a direct-entry Team Challenge competition at both BE80(T) and BE90 Open level to be held at Weston Park (2) 10-11 October 2020. We hope that this will give riders additional time to form teams and we look forward to revisiting the full pilot in 2021.

Further details on eligibility and how to enter the 2020 Rowen Barbary Team Challenge at Weston Park will be released shortly.

Novice Restricted, Novice, Intermediate and Open Championship

Following the news that the 2020 Magic Millions Festival of British Eventing has been cancelled, we can confirm that qualifications for the 2020 Novice Restricted, Intermediate and Open British Eventing Championships will be carried over to the 2021 Festival of British Eventing. Combinations qualified for 2020 Novice Regional Finals will instead be able to compete in the 2021 Novice Regional Finals. All qualifications being carried over will be subject to eligibility as per the BE Handbook.

Youth Championships

You will have seen an earlier announcement whereby we made the difficult decision in conjunction with Bishop Burton and the Youth Programme personnel, to cancel the 2020 championships due to be held in July.

We are pleased to confirm that we run the Regional Youth Championship due to be held in 2020, in 2021. Riders who were registered and eligible to compete in the 2020 Championship will be eligible to compete as an under 19 at the Bishop Burton Championship.
Those combinations will also be eligible to compete in Regional Youth classes but will need to complete their event entry via the BE Head Office. Further details on this process will be circulated by your Regional Youth team.

Scottish and Welsh Champs

Sadly, both the Welsh and Scottish Championships have been cancelled for 2020.

The revised 2020 fixtures calendar can be found HERE and we will continue to update you regularly.
