Bank holiday Horse Trials at Somerset’s popular venue

The Bank Holiday weekend in Somerset looks set to be a hive of equestrian activity with some 900 horse and rider combinations tackling Pontispool Horse Trials.

The event is staged over three days, Saturday May 25 until Monday May 27, and riders from across the levels will be demonstrating their skills in the three disciplines of dressage, show jumping and cross country.

Headline sponsor is Wychanger.com  with section sponsors including Cannington Enterprises, Equireel, Mark Butterfield Furniture, John Luffman Trading, Yeoman Haylage, Old Mills Accountants, Mole Valley Farmers, Carter Jonas LLP, King’s Schools, Connolly’s Red Mills, Blackdown Buildings, Greenslade Taylor Hunt, Isle Valley Vets, NFU, Heronhill Air Conditioning, Ashfords LLP, Everys Solicitors and Equine Dental Services.

Organiser Richard Mitford-Slade said: “We are incredibly lucky to have some great sponsors on board and some super volunteers, all of whom help ensure Pontispool remains one of the Westcountry’s enduringly popular events.

“Staging the event requires a vast team  to ensure each rider competes in their allocated time and a team of more than 200 people will be helping. From fence judges to dressage scorers and car parking stewards to the catering team, each person plays a vital part in ensuring the event runs smoothly.

“We have riders from across the levels competing with some well known international riders in action too.”

Saturday’s competition will see the likes of William Fox-Pitt,  Jonelle Price, Padraig McCarthy, Mary King and Laura Collett in action in the novice and intermediate classes while on Sunday and Monday it’s the turn of those riding in the 100, 90 and 80 sections.

Pontispool’s chosen charity for this event is the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and 100% of the £5 per single occupant or £10 per car entry fee on Saturday will be donated to them. Sunday & Monday entry is free.
