Ellie Healy dressage pony euros 2018 09 Aug 18

Day 1 from the European Championships for Ponies see the Charles Owen team in pole position

The first day of dressage at the European Championships for Ponies got off to a great start for the home team at Bishop Burton College as the British Charles Owen team end the day in gold medal position.

Team trailblazer Ellie Healy (pictured) kicked things off for GB with a fantastic score of 28.1 penalties which currently puts her in individual bronze with her own grey gelding Midnight Dancer II.

Next in to the Bishop Burton Championship Arena was individual rider Georgia King and Anya Kolleth’s striking dun mare Drop the Subject, and a score of 37.4 keeps them inside the top 20 in 16th position.

The final rider for GB on the first day of competition, Hattie Grace, posted another top 10 score for the Charles Owen team on Mr Vincent Jones and Mr Simon Grace’s Noble Superman. With two team riders completing their dressage, Grace’s score of 32.8 penalties to add to Ellie’s team score gives GB a total of 60.9 to hold the lead in the team standings ahead of Germany on 66.3 and France on 67.1.

Germany currently occupy the individual gold and silver medal places with team rider Jana Lehmkuhl on Veith 14 in first with a score of 24.6 and individual for Germany, Sophia Rossel on Camillo WE, in second on a score of 26.5.

Tomorrow the remaining two team riders and one individual combination for Great Britain take to the dressage arena before the excitement of cross country on Saturday.
