About British Eventing
Who are British Eventing and what do we do?
We are the National Governing Body for the sport of eventing in Great Britain.
Eventing is unique in equestrian sport by combining dressage, cross country jumping over fixed fences and show jumping in one exciting activity.
It's a sport that engages all ages and has equal opportunities to compete. We regulate as well as schedule more than 180 events throughout Britain that cater for nearly 94,000 entries per season (Mar-Oct). British Eventing has more than 15,000 members and provides access to riders from grassroots level and just starting out to those performing at the highest international level.
To deliver the sport on a national basis and to the highest standard, we train hundreds of volunteers, officials, riders and technical support teams. The result is that we have successful European medal winning teams at Pony, Junior, Young Rider and Senior level. Our Senior riders also have successful track record at World and Olympic games.
BE also owns and runs the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials.
British Eventing is a membership organisation and is served by a non-executive Board with the Directors serving on a voluntary basis. Read details of the organisation structure, our 'Strategy on a Page' and more in full here.
Our Mission Statement:
TO PROVIDE THE ULTIMATE EQUESTRIAN CHALLENGE
We will do this by driving the sport of eventing forward to greater levels of participation, competence and enjoyment for all by being a dynamic and inspirational organisation.
International equestrian sport is governed by the Federation Equestre Internationale (better known as The FEI), based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The FEI works with the British Equestrian Federation which acts as Great Britain's international office on behalf of all its other member bodies, which includes BE. The BEF represents our interests in all matters concerned with the FEI and other National Federations such as GB run international championships, international competition rules and specialist advice on all urgent veterinary matters. Additionally, the BEF represents equestrian sport (excluding Racing) to the UK government and UK Sport.
