Training for 2*, 3* & 4*

British Eventing offer training at 2*, 3* and 4* levels (formerly known as 1*, 2* and 3* respectively) to support rider progression and develop not only from grassroots level but right to the top.

Find out more about our 2*, 3* and 4* training series below!

Training for 2* - Gatehouse Stepping Stones Training Series

British Eventing’s Gatehouse Stepping Stones Training series is for riders at Novice and 2* level (formerly known as 1* level). This initiative, introduced as an offshoot of the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap (MTBTG) Training series (for 3* and 4* level riders), was created following high demand from riders at 2* level for suitable training.

Sponsored by Gatehouse, the Stepping Stones Training is suitable for riders aiming for, or wishing to become more established at, Novice, CIC* or CCI* level. Each training day has been carefully planned to help riders prepare for specific this level, with a number on the lead up to the Gatehouse 2* League events. The training sessions are open to all at the Novice/2* level to attend.

Training for 3* and 4* - Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Training Series

The Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Training series has been designed specifically for those who are aiming to move into Advanced / 3* (formerly known as 2* level) and those working towards a more established 4* level. The training series, which is sponsored by Keyflow and Mark Todd Collection aims to 'Bridge The Gap' between under 21s/Young Riders and World Class, providing coaching support to those who fall outside of these categories and help them to move forward and achieve their goals.

What do our participants say?

"Thank you so much for the course over the last two days, I really enjoyed myself and learnt loads.  I have found these training days so useful, and definitely fill a gap when starting to become involved with the higher end of eventing.  The difference between the grassroots levels and the international levels is very significant and I think it is such an excellent initiative to make sure that more riders/horses are able to more successfully make the jump with help of informed and involved trainers.  I would definitely be interested in any more days that might be coming up,  these days are invaluable to the middle levels of British Eventing."

MTBTG Dressage and Show Jumping Camp - June 2018

"I had a really enjoyable days training and my horses showed good improvement in both phases. I gained plenty of valuable advice and Gill has given me lots of ideas to go away and work with."

MTBTG Dressage and Show Jumping Training Day - April 2018

"I just wanted to pass on my thanks to [Gill] and Lizzel for another fantastic MTBTG training at Attington last weekend. The course provides such expertise that otherwise would be very hard to come by and is very enjoyable. It’s lovely to have the chance to meet and bond with other riders of a similar level. The heart rate monitor talk was fascinating - again proving information and knowledge that would be hard to receive elsewhere. I have lots to take away from the course and look forward to the training day at Parwood in March."

MTBTG Eventing Training Camp - March 2018

"I would just like to express my thanks for the Bridging the Gap course walk I attended with Lizzel Winter on Friday at Osberton. I can't explain how influential this was to me jumping a clear round my first CCI2*. Not only did it help me gain confidence and control my nerves but it helped me understand the course and the questions asked."
