'What Makes a Good Coach Great'

British Eventing are offering all coaches, whether BE Accredited or not, a great opportunity to spend a day reflecting on their current coaching skills and looking at how they can take those skills forwards to enable them to become even better coaches. 

What is the Regional Coaching Development Programme?

These days, which are funded by British Eventing and Sport England will take place in each of the nine Training and Education Regions, where coaches can experience ongoing support in their progress through Career Development, and acheive the required criteria to become a Development Coach, a BE coach or a Master Coach. The days will have a particular focus around the UKCC BE specific qualifications. 

 
What's Involved?
 
The days will focus in the morning on discussion, reflection and theory in a classroom-based environment, followed in the afternoon by practical coaching sessions where all those attending will be involved in coaching, observing and feeding back. 
 
Who Can Attend?
 
The days are entitled ‘What Makes a Good Coach Great’ and are aimed at and open to all coaches who are already working in the eventing industry. Pony Club and Riding Club Coaches who wish to develop thier career in eventing coaching are welcome. Numbers will be limited however, and priority will be given, if oversubscribed, to British Eventing members.
 
What are the Long Term Aims?
 
The aim of the on-going Regional Coach Development Programme will be a regional, self-financing group that will work together in areas that specifically interest the group to help develop individuals coaching skills, qualifications, and personal CPD. This might involve the following:
  • Arranging visits to well-known, experienced trainers and observing them work
  • Working with other sports, looking at language and psychology.
  • Specifically targeted portfolio building work for those that are doing their UKCC.
It will be up to the individual groups to work together with their Coach Educator acting as a mentor and their Regional Training Organiser, both of whom will help to deliver what is required.
