Controller Mentors

There are ten Controller Mentors based around the country. They are experienced Controllers who have been assigned to 'mentor' any new or inexperienced Controllers. A Trainee Controller's experience through the Mentoring process will depend on the Mentor, the Trainee's experience and the distance required to travel to meet. However in all cases the Mentor will provide support to the Trainee throughout to help them develop into highly experienced, confident Controllers.

The best way to learn more about the role of Controller is to attend one of our Controller Induction days, which are held throughout the country at the start of the season. These are designed to give prospective Controllers a taste of what is involved in being a Controller. Whether you have attended one of these days or not, if you are interested in learning more, contacting your local Controller Mentor is a good next step in the process.

If you are serious about becoming a fully qualified Controller, your Mentor is likely to initially give you a suitable date for you to start the mentoring process, probably at an event that they are working at. Your Mentor will guide you through your first event day and provide support throughout the process. Meeting the team and experiencing a day will also give you a much clearer ideal of what is involved and if you want to go forward.

If you are very interested in continuing and becoming a 'Controller Trainee', and if your Mentor feels that this would be a suitable role for you, they will then issue you with a Log Book which you will need to bring to each event and ensure it is filled in by the officials at the event.
