Team Challenge

Following the running of an adapted presentation of the Team Challenge in 2020, due to COVID-19, British Eventing is looking forward to hosting the 2021 Team Challenge for the first time in its full pilot format.  Open to adult riders at BE80(T) and BE90 Open level, the Team Challenge has been developed with the Rider Working Group (BE80-105 level) and in conjunction with Eventing Riders Association of Great Britain (ERA of GB).

Self-selected teams of up to four riders will have the opportunity to compete in any of the Team Challenge Qualifiers to gain a place at the Team Challenge Championship at Weston Park (2) in October.

The Team Challenge aims to give grassroots riders, and those not currently eligible to compete in more restricted classes, the opportunity to come together with friends in a fun and supportive competition.

Science Supplements Area Festivals

The exciting new Science Supplements Area Festivals join the British Eventing calendar at BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 level, providing grassroots riders with additional new competition opportunities. In 2021, the Area Festivals will be held at four prestigious locations across the country and will be run as standalone events with Championship technicality courses and international size dressage arenas.

The Science Supplements Area Festivals will include new Area Championship classes at BE80(T), BE80(T) Open, BE90, BE90 Open, BE100 and BE100 Open for grassroots riders consistently gaining double-clears, and new-look BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 Area Qualifiers replacing existing Regional Finals.

The four Area Festival venues are:

  • Firle Place, Sussex (15-16 May)
  • Frickley Park, South Yorkshire (19-20 June)
  • Chillington Hall, Staffordshire/Shrophsire border (26-27 June)
  • Northern/Scottish region Area Festival venue – to be announced soon

Novice Masters

Developed with the Rider Working Group representing riders at Novice level and above and in conjunction with ERA of GB, we are delighted to introduce the new Novice Masters series for 2021.

The Novice Masters will run at Intermediate Novice level and see five events pilot this new competition for adult riders. The series aims to provide members with an achievable new goal and to reward consistent performance at Novice level.

Combinations will qualify for the new series by achieving two double-clears at Novice and will bring together many riders competing at this level. As well as riding a bespoke dressage test, designed especially for this class, in an international sized arena with two dressage judges, Novice Masters competitors can choose to ride their test in a Tailcoat, adding to the special feel of this occasion.

The 2021 Novice Masters venues are:

  • Glamis Castle, Angus (29-30 May)
  • Catton Park, Derbyshire (19-20 June)
  • Barbury, Wiltshire (9 – 11 July)
  • Little Downham (2), Cambridgeshire (7 – 8 August)
  • Allerton Park, North Yorkshire (18-19 September)

Pilot of CCI1*-Intro

Initially planned for launch in 2020 prior to the disruption caused by the impact of Covid-19, three CCI1*-Intro classes will be piloted in 2021.

The new one star level was introduced to the international calendar by the FEI in 2018 and, following member feedback in the members’ survey, BE will pilot the short format 1* at three selected venues in 2021:

  • Offchurch Bury, Warwickshire (3-4 July)
  • Chilham Castle (2), Kent (31 July – 1 August)
  • Blair Castle International, Perthshire, Scotland (26 – 29 August)

BE90 Three Day Event

As part of British Eventing’s commitment to continue the development of their grassroots offering, we are pleased to confirm that following a tender process, Bicton Arena will pilot a BE90 Three Day Event in 2021 and 2022.

The pilot BE90 Three Day Event follows member feedback and will be run with both BE90 and BE90 Open sections. It will include a dressage test in a 60m x 20m arena as well as a steeplechase phase, and roads and tracks.
