2020 Changes
Following the International and Championship calendar announcement earlier this year, which shared details of the new international events and locations for BE Championship classes, we are delighted to also welcome the following new and returning venues to the British Eventing calendar:
- Cirencester Park, Gloucestershire (21 – 22 March)
- Thoresby Park International, Nottinghamshire (27 – 29 March)
- Cornbury International, Oxfordshire (11 – 13 September)
Along with these exciting venues, the 2020 calendar introduces several new classes to existing BE fixtures, for full details view the 2020 Fixtures List HERE.
Pilot of CCI1*-Intro
British Eventing is delighted to announce the launch of three new CCI1*-Intro classes in 2020.
The new one star level was introduced to the international calendar by the FEI in 2018 and, following member feedback in the members’ survey, BE will pilot the short format 1* at three selected venues in 2020:
- Brand Hall, Staffordshire (30 – 31 May)
- Chilham Castle (2), Kent (25 - 26 July)
- Blair Castle International, Perthshire, Scotland (27 – 30 August)
Led by the BE Board, the BE Fixtures Team were tasked with developing a framework for this pilot. From this framework, the venues have been carefully selected based on various factors, including location, the current event set up, infrastructure and organisers with experience of presenting International competition. The class will run at these selected venues as a pilot from 2020 for three years to provide an opportunity to trial the popularity, viability and value to the BE membership.
Change to The Festival of British Eventing
From 2020 British Eventing Open Championship, sponsored by Magic Millions, will no longer run as an international CCI4*-S and will run as a National Advanced class.
Four Year Old Classes and New Showcase
Next year sees British Eventing and BEDE Events introducing a new ‘Showcase’ for four year old horses at the Osberton International Horse Trials and BE Young Horse Championships. Riders wishing to compete on four year old horses will be able to compete in up to four normal BE80(T) and/or BE90 classes between July and October, providing qualification to the Showcase (qualification details to be announced in due course). This new Showcase will replace the four year old championship at Osberton and there will no longer be specific four year old qualifying classes.
Relocation of BE90 and BE100 Regional Finals
The abandoned BE90 and BE100 Regional Finals in 2019 for the 2020 Science Supplement Cup have been relocated to the following fixtures:
- Moreton (1), 29 February – 1 March 2020 - BE90 and BE100RF (replacement of Bovington (2))
- Oasby (1), 5 – 8 March 2020 – BE100RF (replacement of Norton Disney (2))

- Stafford (1), 14 – 15 March 2020 – BE90RF (replacement of Aston Le Walls (X))
BE80(T) Championship
Following the abandonment of the BE80(T) Championship at Norton Disney (2) this October, the 2019 Championship will take place at Norton Disney (1) on Saturday 4 April 2020.
The BE80(T) Championship will then take up its exciting new location at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in September 2020.
Junior and Young Rider European Championship
The annual Junior and Young Rider European Championship will take place on home soil in 2020, as Hartpury (Gloucestershire) hosts the championship from 27 July – 2 August.
