Dressage Day 1 – NAF Young Riders at the FEI European Championships

The first day of the FEI Young Rider European Championships in Fontainebleau, France, saw four out of the six NAF Young Rider squad entering the dressage arena and post four impressive sub-30 scores.

Trailblazer for the team Sam Ecroyd (pictured) got GB off to a flying start to sit in the silver medal position individually on Adam Gillespie’s 14 year old gelding Kasseedorf with a score of 25.70 - just 1.6 penalties behind the leader, Germany’s Emma Brüssau on 24.1 penalties.

Individual combination Mollie Summerland and her own nine year old gelding Charly van Ter Heiden followed Sam into the arena and got off to an equally strong start to score 27.4 penalties for fourth place.

After a short break it was another Brit to perform their dressage as individual rider Lizzie Baugh kept up the sub-30 streak on her own 10 year old gelding Quarry Man with a score of 29.5 penalties to take eighth place.

Our second team rider, Bubby Upton, was last of the NAF Young Riders to do their dressage on the first day of competition and finished on a high with a score of 25.8 penalties with Rachel Upton’s eight year old gelding Cola III to sit in the bronze medal position.

With two of the team completing their tests today, the British NAF Young Rider team currently hold the gold medal position at the end of day one on a score of 51.5 penalties, with all four riders inside the top 10 individually.
