Richard Carruthers announced as new BE Under 18 Chairman

British Eventing is pleased to announce Richard Carruthers as the new Under 18 Chairman; he will be working closely with current Chairperson Jane Peters and will take up the reins after the BE Regional Team Under 18 Championship at Frickley Park in July 2018.

Richard has been involved with British Eventing and the Under 18 Programme for many years, starting off as a part time coach in the Wales and Borders Region before the restructuring of the training regions, after which he has taken on a very active role organising and delivering training in the North Wales and West Midlands.

Through his previous role as a BE Technical Adviser, his coaching and term as Chairman of the former BE Training Committee, Richard brings with him experience and knowledge of the sport, BE Training & Education and the BE Under 18 Programme. As a BHSI and BE Accredited Coach he has trained riders across various disciplines at all levels, including four star competitors and a 2016 Pony European team silver medallist.

Training & Education Manager, Sean Maxwell, commented: “Richard brings a wealth of experience to the Under 18 Chairperson role. Having been involved with the Under 18 Programme for many years and as the Chair of the former BE Training Committee; he has experience in many different areas of planning and organising events, competed to good standard and he is a highly respected coach - to mention some of the experience he can draw on – we look forward to working with Richard to further develop the programme.”

The BE Under 18 Programme runs alongside the 12 – 21 Training Programme giving riders a series of training and competitive opportunities for those who are aiming for the BE Under 18 Regional Team Championships, hosted at Frickley Park in July.

Riders do not need to be registered on an Under 18 Programme, or be a BE member, to attend regional 12-21 training, however if wishing to compete in the BE under 18 classes and be eligible for the BE Under 18 Regional Team Championships at Frickley Park riders will need to register on the appropriate programme - either the BE100 u18 and/or Novice u18 in their region.
