New Under 18 Coach for the South East Region

Following an interview process, British Eventing is delighted to welcome Carl Belson into the role of Under 18 Coach for the South East region.

Of his new appointment, Carl commented ‘I am really excited to be given this opportunity and really looking forward to working with the South East Under 18 team, I cannot wait to get started’.

Carl is a British Showjumping (BS) UKCC level 3 excel coach with extensive experience in coaching under 18 riders. For many years he was involved in both running and coaching at the BS Surrey academy which involved setting up coaching programmes, running camps, coaching sessions and making team selections. He was also a co-organiser of the National Academy Show.

In 1992 he was Pony Club senior eventing champion and was 2nd in the young rider class at Osberton, allowing him to take part in young rider team training the following season. Carl is now involved in training event riders of all levels from grass roots to 3*, as well as show jumpers up to 1.50 level. He will be working towards his BE UKCC L3 qualification.

The BE Under 18 Programme runs alongside the 12 – 21 Training Programme giving riders a series of training and competitive opportunities for those who are aiming for the BE Under 18 Regional Team Championships, hosted at Frickley Park in July. Carl will be supporting under 18 riders in the South East region, providing fun and engaging coaching and helping to identify potential combinations for the Regional Team Championships in the summer.

Riders do not need to be registered on an Under 18 Programme, or be a BE member, to attend regional 12-21 training, however if wishing to compete in the BE under 18 classes and be eligible for the BE Under 18 Regional Team Championships at Frickley Park, riders will need to register on the appropriate programme - either the BE100 u18 and/or Novice u18 in their region.

Registering onto the programme through the BE website will allow riders to compete in BE100u18 and/or Nu18 classes, the results from which are used by the regional Under 18 coordinators when selecting their teams for the BE Under 18 Regional Team Championships.
