Will Furlong Houghton Hall 2017 25 Oct 17

Furlong dominates 2017 Britannia 3* League

At the end of the 2017 British Eventing season Will Furlong (pictured) secured a commanding win in the Britannia 3* League on his own 10 year old Collien P 2. In their first full season together, 22 year old Will and the grey mare posted some impressive results at 3* level to take the win on a total of 201 BE points ahead of second placed Gina Ruck and her own Rehy Too and Caroline Clarke with Touch Too Much and Hazel Towers with Simply Smart in equal third.

Over 60 points separated Will from the rest of the table helped by their fourth place in the home leg of the FEI Nations Cup CICO3* at Houghton International, a win in the Equi-Trek Bramham International CCI3* under 25 in June and sixth place at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International CCI3* this September.

On his win, Will commented; "I’m delighted to win the Britannia league for 2017. It's even more exciting considering it was our debut 3* season together and to win by a considerable margin amongst good competition is very pleasing indeed.

"Having done the guinea pig dressage test at [Mitsubishi Motors] Badminton this year, we now have our qualification for 2018 - which is definitely something to look forward to for next year! I’m actively seeking syndicate members for Collien P 2, so for anyone wanting to join the journey, please don't hesitate to get in contact!"

Developed by longstanding BE supporter and owner Nigella Hall, the league, open to British riders who have not started for GB at a senior European or World Championships or Olympic Games, takes BE points awarded at British CIC and CCI3* classes and any Nations Cup appearances and provides up-and-coming British riders with a substantial target each year.

Gina Ruck and Rehy Too collected a total of 140 BE points this season thanks to their runner-up spot at the Bramham International CCI3* under 25 and top 25 results from the FEI Nations Cup fixture, Boekelo, in the Netherlands in October.

Two riders occupy third place with Caroline Clarke and her own and Penny Clarke’s Touch Too Much’s third place, and Hazel Towers and her own Simply Smart’s win, at the Equi-Trek Blair Castle CCI3* helping them on their way to a 115 point total each.

As the winner Will receives a BE membership and horse season ticket for 2018 and, as the owner of the winning horse, takes home a beautiful bronze trophy thanks to Nigella Hall.
