Rio Two Hearts 29 Jul 16

Your sport needs you in Rio 2016

In just one week over 10,000 athletes from 206 countries will be taking part in the official start of the Olympic Games, as they parade in the Opening Ceremony of Rio 2016.

On Friday 5th August 2016 history will be made as the Olympic torch makes its way to the Maracanã Stadium in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, here it will light the Olympic cauldron signalling the beginning of the first Olympic Games to be hosted in South America.

Rio 2016 marks a particularly important Olympic Games for equestrian sport as the popularity of eventing at the Games will determine its place in the Olympic programme for the future. From the 29th July to the 28th August 2016 the International Olympic Committee will assess how engaged fans are through print, broadcast and online, including social media, this will demonstrate how widespread the appeal is of each Olympic event.

How you can help

This is where we need you, the equestrian fan, to support, shout about and share all things horses during Rio 2016, to celebrate how you are watching, where you are following and who you are backing, there has never been a more important time to show your passion for the sport.

The BBC is planning to show every event, live, every day on the Red Button and more information on the schedule and how you can watch, and record, can be found in our TV Guide.

Both the British Equestrian Federation and FEI have online campaigns, Join the Journey and Two Hearts, to engage fans and help share the journey of our equine and human athletes and you can get involved by telling us how you are joining the journey too. Whether you are spectating, volunteering, competing, training or simply enjoying the sport we want to know how you are following Rio 2016, through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram tell us how you are keeping up with the action and what you are loving about the 2016 Olympic Games!
