Bramham Photo Competition winner announced 11 Sep 12

Bramham Photo Competition winner announced

Dave Bates from Hunmanby, near Filey, has been announced as the winner of this year’s Photo Competition. His photograph of Bramham regular Caroline Powell and Thornfield Jones, will be on the cover of the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials’ 2013 Official Event Programme.

The competition goes from strength to strength each year, and this year, we had an astounding 417 photos sent in for consideration, and the task of picking a winner was a tough job for judges Nick Lane Fox, Nick Pritchard, Laura Jennings and Jane Conyers.

All four judges agreed on the winner, enjoying the ‘framing’ of horse and rider through the Suregrow Fertiliser Owl Hole. When the picture is made into the front cover, they are all sure that it will look great.

Dave, a 31 year old Divisional Procurement Manager for Kingspan Ltd, has only been taking photos for around nine months, and 2012 was his first visit to Bramham. Dave’s real sporting passions are football and cricket, but after being told he’d won, he said: "Maybe I should have hung the football boots up sooner!’.

Dave’s wife is an avid eventing fan, and persuaded him to attend Bramham this year, and having been to a few Horse Trials where friends were competing, he was happy to tag along. He was delighted to have won, and said that he’ll definitely be bringing his camera with him when they attend next year with their free tickets that they have received for winning the competition.

The competition judges also named a further three photos as runners up. Jane Horton, with a picture of Equi-Trek CCI3* winners William Fox-Pitt and Chilli Morning, Sara Reynard (a previous winner of the competition in 2010) and a picture again of William Fox-Pitt, but this time with Avoca Alibi on the cross country, and Rachel Cox with her dramatic picture of Tina Cook and Miner’s Frolic.

Event President, Nick Lane Fox said; “We were once again amazed and impressed at the standard of photographs that were entered into this now fairly established competition. The winner, Dave Bates, only entered one photo and that was our winner – very well done to all who entered.”
