In Memoriam - Tony Cuthbert

We are very sad to share the news that former Aston Park Horse Trials organiser Tony Cuthbert died peacefully on December 5th after a long illness.

Tony, a successful businessman in the world of advertising, film, and TV, was one of life’s great characters, sharp of mind and wit and full of enthusiasm and generosity.

In the world of eventing he is perhaps best known for hosting and organising the outstandingly popular Aston Park Horse Trials where competitors were greeted with a glass of champagne, served by Tony and some of the sponsors on a tray, as they drove in. Tony was rightly proud of his cross country and the themes that he introduced such as the ‘Gnomes Headache’ and the ‘Thing of Beauty’. Tony was also well known on the circuit as an enthusiastic competitor, arguably more concerned about not damaging his cigar than the result.

He will be sadly missed by many and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St Paul’s Church (the Actor’s Church), Bedford Street, Covent Garden WC2E 9ED at 11.00am on Saturday 10th December and a further Thanksgiving Service will be held in the late spring in Oxfordshire.
