New structure for Burghley Horse Trials

Richard Jewson, the current Chairman of Archant Group, the UK’s largest independently owned regional media business has been appointed as Chairman of a new organising committee working under the umbrella of Burghley Horse Trials Ltd. He will be known to many in the world of eventing, with his wife Sarah, as owners of horses ridden by Pippa Funnell.

Major Malcolm Wallace will now stand down after nine years as Chairman of the former committee and becomes a Vice President of the event.

Malcolm Wallace said; “While I am sorry to be leaving the committee at Burghley I am delighted to continue my connection with this event which I consider, quite simply, the best there is.”

Burghley Horse Trials Ltd., the new company set up to be responsible for the event, now to be wholly owned by the Burghley Estate, will continue to work closely with British Eventing (BE) to ensure the continued success of this world famous horse trials. Management of the event will continue in the capable hands of the current Event Director, Elizabeth Inman, and Miranda Rock the incumbent custodian of Burghley House will continue as President.

Mike Etherington-Smith, Chief Executive of British Eventing commented; “Burghley and British Eventing have enjoyed a long relationship having run the event there for almost fifty years. I am delighted our association and involvement will remain with The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. We wish the new committee every success in taking this world famous event into 2011 and beyond.”

In-coming Chairman Richard Jewson said; “We believe this new structure offers an excellent opportunity to invest in the future of both the event and the sport, as we proceed into the fiftieth anniversary year of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.
