Coaching Development Programme 2009

The British Eventing Coaching Development Programme was set up in 2005, initiated by the BEF World Class Programme, orchestrated by British Eventing Performance Manager, Yogi Breisner.

The first graduates; Nick Turner, Caroline Moore, Christie Wright, Philip Surl and Clare Turner formed the Coaching Development Team to offer riders excellent training and the opportunity to attend cross-country performance and safety workshops. These are full days training designed to improve technical ability, knowledge, safety and confidence.

Coaching Development trainer Christie Wright is delighted with the expansion of these workshops: “These training days are educational and fun and I’m pleased to say that we have added further days to our 2009 programme. I’m looking forward to seeing some new and old faces in the New Year”.

The indoor coaching days have practical and theoretical aspects; including course walks, understanding course design and increasing rider awareness through safety education and responsibility. They also cover rider fitness, balance and position including the use of DVD rider analysis. The riding section concentrates on improving technique including pace and rhythm to curving lines and accuracy at fences i.e. corners, arrowheads and angled rails.

The outdoor coaching days concentrate on course walking, speed training and practical cross country riding.

The cost for a riding place is £70 and £35 for a non – riding place.
